Spring Break

Over spring break I went back home to West Des Moines. I didn't do much of anything but hangout with my family and basically just relaxed. To my surprise the weather was actually pretty nice with the exception of the one day that it snowed. Overall it was a really enjoyable break.

Momaday

I would say the intended audience is the modern day man. The people who still go out and survive on the land but at the same time I think its trying to reach the people who dont use the land. I think its intended purpose is to show that the land is still important to many cultures and the land is what makes us as people and as a culture. The specific detail that stays in my mind the mosts was at the beggining when the were talking about the weapon and how much detail he went into about the weapon.

Des Moines

I did an image search for Des Moines and I found a picture of downtown. To me this picture represents you typical downtown. Large buliding with lots of business people walking around, tons of car and buses and it looks big. Living in West Des Moines and knowing that if you drive 10 min in any direction you can most likely find a farm. I would maybe put a picture of a farm next to it. To let people know that Des Moines isn't a large downtown and that there is a lot more to the area then just these big bulidings.

Reading like a writer: Terry Tempest Williams

The specific details that stayed in my mind were the description of the Great Salt Lake and the description of the drive at the very start of the piece. I think these stayed in my mind because they sound so familier. I have family from that area and this reading brought me back to that place. Also just in general on how descriptive the drive in was, using specific street corners, left and right turns. It made me think of when I drive home, I know every turn I need to take and every store and gas station on each corner. These small details help open up the entire story. The piece would still be good without them, but as a reader having them makes you think about where you came from. Also, these smaller ideas helped me get an idea what the writer is talking about.
